The Substance Abuse Professional (SAP) is the person who evaluates employees who have violated the Department of Transportation (DOT) drug and alcohol program regulations and makes recommendations concerning education, treatments, follow-up testing, and aftercare. When an employee is referred for an initial consultation for substance abuse evaluation: This includes two face to face interview and subsequent written reports. The evaluation not only includes a formal assessment but a review of previous reports, collateral interviews, a longer interview time and formal written reports including recommendations as well as compliance. Health insurance does not cover this and the employee is responsible for the cost.
